Alan Scott Rothey Findlay, OH Obituary Death: Alan Scott Rothey Has Died

 

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Scott Rothey, known to many as “Scott,” who died peacefully on March 23, 2026, at Birchaven Village in Findlay, Ohio, at the age of 84. He was a visionary entrepreneur, accomplished economist, dedicated educator, and devoted family man whose life reflected passion, optimism, and a strong belief in opportunity.

Born on May 28, 1941, in Ogden, Utah, Scott was the son of Albert Godfrey Rothey and Margaret Louise Williams. He pursued his education at the University of Utah before completing graduate studies at The Ohio State University. His path eventually led him to Ohio, where he built a meaningful career and a life centered on family and community.

In 1974, Scott married Martha “Marty” Flippen, and together they shared 51 years of marriage. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who took great joy in supporting his family. Fondly known as a “Cool Dad,” he celebrated his children and grandchildren with enthusiasm, often expressing his pride through thoughtful notes and encouragement.

Scott’s professional life was defined by leadership and innovation. He served as Chief Economist for the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, contributing to important developments in energy policy. He later co-founded consulting firms, including Rothey, Bell, and Taub Consulting and A. Scott Rothey & Associates. As President of Suburban Natural Gas Company and founder of KNG Energy in 1991, he played a key role in expanding natural gas access to rural communities across Ohio.

In addition to his business accomplishments, Scott was passionate about education. As a professor of economics at The Ohio State University, he inspired students with his knowledge, enthusiasm, and real-world insight. His influence reached far beyond the classroom, shaping the lives of many he mentored.

Scott will be remembered for his intellect, leadership, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, both personally and professionally.
