Alexander Alex Murray, Michigan Death Obituary: Cherish Resident Has Died

 

We are deeply saddened to honor the life of Alexander “Alex” Murray, a dedicated community leader, former Board Chair of the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, and a tireless advocate for those in need. His passing marks a profound loss for his family, friends, and the many individuals whose lives he touched through his decades of service.

Alex devoted more than 26 years to supporting the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, demonstrating compassion, humility, and a strong sense of purpose. Whether serving in leadership, volunteering his time, or participating in outreach efforts like Empty Bowls, he consistently showed a genuine commitment to helping others and strengthening his community.

His leadership went beyond titles—Alex believed in leading through action. Known for his kindness, approachability, and encouragement, he inspired those around him to get involved and make a difference. His efforts played a vital role in advancing the mission of the food bank and expanding its reach to those facing food insecurity.

Among his many contributions, Alex helped grow the NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive into a major community initiative, resulting in millions of pounds of food collected and countless meals provided to families in need. Alongside his wife, Sylvia, he also gave generously over the years, contributing the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of meals—a reflection of his lifelong commitment to service and generosity.

Beyond his community work, Alex was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He valued family deeply and was actively involved in his church, union, and local efforts, always striving to uplift others and create positive change.

Though his passing leaves a significant void, Alex Murray’s legacy of compassion, leadership, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life stands as a powerful example of the difference one person can make through kindness and dedication.
